Topic: News from Cedar Living Center
  • Birthday Party: The February Birthday Party will be held on Thursday, February 11 out in the Dining Room at 2:30 p.m. Hope you join us for the party for loads of fun, good eats, and lots of good company to visit with. Though there are no February birthdays, we will have a good time anyway. See you there!
  • Valentine's Day: We have been busy finishing up plans for Valentine's Day. The arts and crafts group will meet out in the Dining Room on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00. We will work on Valentine's cards for family, staff and friends. There will be a box or bag for Valentines at the Nurses' Station. Cards that are put in the bag should be for residents and staff only. The dietary department is planning a special dinner on February 10th. Remember President's Day on February 15. We will have trivia and puzzles on that day.
  • Sweetheart Open House: Please invite your family and friends to come on Saturday afternoon to the Sweetheart Open House at 2:00. We will have drinks, snacks, games and loads of fun. Hope to see you there.
  • Sweetheart Lunch: On Wednesday, February 10 at 12:00 Noon we will have a special lunch for the Sweethearts out on the Patio. Spouses and their wives or husbands will get together and have a special lunch.
  • Valentine's Dance: On Wednesday evening there will be lots of action on the floor of the CLC Dining Room, with lots of movin' and shakin' going on. The Valentine's Dance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend the dance. Be sure to invite your family and friends to join us at the dance. We are planning to have a great time with lots of fun and some good eatin'. Hope to see everyone there!
  • Game Night: Game night has been cancelled this week because of the dance on Wednesday evening. We will have game night on Friday night the following week, February 19, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Olympics: The Olympics will begin on Friday, February 12 and continue through February 28. For those who enjoy the Olympics.....Have Fun!!

  • We have a great week of festivities planned in honor of Valentine's Day. We would especially like to include the public in two of the events planned this week. We will have a dance on Wednesday night starting at 7:00 in the Cedar Living Center dining room. Vic Mowry of Hoxie and his band will be providing the music. Please join the residents for this special evening.
  • There will be an open house in the Cedar Living Center dining room on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to come share cookies and punch with the residents as we celebrate Valentine's Day. Your visits are always a wonderful way to share your love and respect with the residents at Cedar Living Center.
  • This past Monday was filled with music. Residents played a game of "name that tune" in the afternoon. Myrna Jones and Mary Ann Amack led the sing-along time before supper on Monday.
    Joan Noble won the first bingo on Tuesday afternoon and Elsie Goodnight won the blackout game.
  • Pastor Charlotte Strecker-Baseler of the Faith Lutheran Church gave the monthly Communion service on the Cedar Living Center patio before supper on Tuesday.
  • Staff member Anita Ketterl celebrated her birthday on Wednesday by sharing strawberry shortcake with the residents.
  • Lots of prizes were given out at the dice game played on Wednesday afternoon. Players included Darlene Fisher, Irene Fringer, Elsie Goodnight, Inez Jackson, Fern Jording, Edna Mott, Agnes Pruitt, Aleen Van Vleet, and Mary Votapka.
  • Stuart Euhus gave the Bible study lesson on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Fr. Mark Berland brought Communion for the Catholic residents on Thursday morning.
  • The craft group met on Thursday afternoon to finish making Valentine's Day decorations. Several residents met on Thursday evening for a game night.
  • The baking group made peanut butter chocolate chip cookies on Friday afternoon. After the cookies were gone, the pinochle players met for a game hosted by Judy Jackson of Norcatur.

  • There was lots of laughter at the bowling game played in the Cedar Living Center dining room on Monday afternoon. Residents who joined in on the fun included Dale Butler, Darlene Fisher, Irene Fringer, Elsie Goodnight, Ruth Havel, Donna Kent, Joan Noble, Jim Plotts, Agnes Pruitt, Blanche Skubal, and Delores Wheeler.
  • Mary Ann Amack and Myrna Jones led the sing-along time before supper on Monday afternoon.
  • Dale Butler and Edna Mott tied for the first bingo on Tuesday afternoon. Jean Skubal won the blackout game.
  • The creative juices were flowing when the craft group met on Wednesday afternoon to work on Valentines.
  • Stuart Euhus gave the Bible study lesson on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Fr. Mark Berland brought Communion for the Catholic residents on Thursday morning.
  • There were lots of winners on Thursday afternoon when residents met for a game of dice.
  • The baking group met to make chocolate chip cookies on Friday afternoon. Fortunately, they made a big batch so they had plenty to share with other residents, staff, and guests.
  • Jean Skubal returned to her home in Leoville on Friday after a short stay at Cedar Living Center. Staff members also bid a fond farewell this week to Frances Schiessler who has moved to an apartment in Oberlin.
  • Elsie Goodnight and Edna Mott attended funeral services for Robert Vaughn on Saturday morning. Mr. Vaughn was a grandson of Mrs. Goodnight and a nephew of Mrs. Mott. Family members met for a pizza supper on the Cedar Living Center patio on Friday evening.
  • Blanche Skubal was the guest of honor at a birthday celebration at noon on Saturday hosted by her daughter, Lillian Sulzman. Mrs. Sulzman provided cake and ice cream for all of the residents and staff.

Super Bowl: All football fans will want to catch the big game on Sunday, February 7. The teams that will be playing this year are the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints. Enjoy the game.

Valentine's Day: February 14 is a couple of weeks away. We are planning several fun activities during the week of February 8 through 14 in honor of Valentine's Day. We will have a Sweetheart Luncheon on February 10 at 12:00 Noon for the husbands and wives. On Friday at Baking and Tasting, we will be making heart shaped cookies with pink and red frosting. On Saturday, February 13 we will have a Sweetheart Open House from 2:00 to 3:00. You are welcome to invite your family and friends to celebrate with us.

Communion Services: Pastor Charlotte will be here on Tuesday, February 2 at 4:15 p.m. out on the patio for Communion. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Wear Red Day: Friday, February 5 is National Wear Read Day. This is a national day of awareness for cardiovascular disease in women.

Ground Hog Day: Ground Hog Day is February 2. Let's hope the ground hog does not see his shadow. If he does, the forecast is for six more weeks of winter. I don't know about you, but I do not want six more weeks of winter. I'm ready for summer!

Kansas Day: Friday, January 29 is Kansas Day. Kansas became a state on January 29, 1861. In honor of Kansas Day we will devote some time to Kansas Trivia on Friday at 4:30 out in the Dining Room. You are invited to attend. Hope to see you all there.
Happy Birthday: Blanche Skubal will celebrate her special day on Thursday, January 28. Everyone wish Blanche a very Happy Birthday.
Birthday Party: A birthday party for Blanche Skubal will take place on Saturday, January 30 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dining Room. Everyone is invited to attend. Be sure to be there so you won't miss out on the fun. We hope to see you all there!

  • Residents met on Monday afternoon for a game of dice. There were several high rollers, but win or lose, everyone had a good time.
  • Mary Ann Amack and Myrna Jones led the sing-along time before supper on Monday afternoon.
  • Elsie Goodnight won the first bingo on Tuesday afternoon. Her luck carried over to the blackout game where she tied with Donna Kent for the big win. Opal Huntley, Marian Dempewolf, and Ila Ray assisted with bingo.
  • Judy Jackson hosted pinochle players Aleen Van Vleet, Elsie Goodnight, and Mary Votapka on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Several residents met for an afternoon at the movies on Wednesday. The group watched "The Wizard of Oz" and feasted on popcorn, soda pop, and other snacks.
  • Stuart Euhus gave the Bible study lesson on Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Zeta Nu Club hosted the January birthday party on Thursday afternoon in the Cedar Living Center dining room. Musical entertainment was provided by Pastor Chris Nelson. Those being honored with January birthdays were Darlene Fisher, Frances Schiessler, and Blanche Skubal. Each received a birthday balloon.
  • The baking group made chocolate oatmeal cookies on Friday afternoon. Charlotte Kurtz hosted a game night on Friday. The poker players also met for a game on Friday night.
  • Pastor Doug Mason of the Lund Covenant Church gave the Worship Service on Sunday afternoon.
  • The dietary department teamed up with the activity department to host an ice cream sundae party on Sunday evening. Staff members Anna Cressler, Erin Jeffrey, Vicky Sylvester, and Teresa Shaughnessy made the sundaes, which were a big hit with all the residents.

  • Schedule Changes: On Monday, January 18 we will be playing the Dice Game instead of the regularly scheduled Half-A-Millionaire Game. Hope to see you there.
  • Birthdays: Darlene Fisher is having a birthday on Tuesday, January 19. Happy Birthday, Darlene. We hope you have a great birthday. Be sure to wish Darlene a Happy Birthday when you see her.
  • January Birthday Party: The CLC Birthday Party is scheduled for Thursday, January 21 at 2:30 in the dining room. Be sure to join us for the good treats and fun. The birthdays for January are Frances Schiessler, Darlene Fisher and Blanche Skubal. Please wish these ladies a Happy Birthday when you see them. We hope to see you at the CLC Birthday Party!
  • Catholic Services: There will be no Catholic Services this week
  • Other Changes: No special activities will be happening on Thursday until 2:30. Charlotte will not be here until 12:00 noon on Thursday. Game night is scheduled for Friday evening.
  • Game Night: Game night will be 6:30 p.m. Friday evening out in the dining room. Be sure to come out, play games with us and join in the fun. Snacks will be served following the games.
  • Resident Council Meeting: The Resident Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 19 at 4:00 p.m. out on the Patio. If you have anything you want to discuss or have any complaints or problems, this would be a good time to share them. Teresa will be at the meeting if you have anything you would like to discuss. If you are not able to go to this meeting and have a concern, you may talk to either Teresa or Charlotte anytime.

  • The Royal Neighbors held their monthly meeting on the Cedar Living Center patio on Monday afternoon.
  • Myrna Jones and Mary Ann Amack led the sing-along time before supper on Monday.

  • Sympathy is extended to the family of Elton O'Hare who passed away last week at Cedar Living Center.
  • Monday was a musical afternoon with residents playing a game of Name That Tune followed by sing-along time before supper. Mary Ann Amack led the sing-along.
  • Fern Wenger won the first bingo on Tuesday afternoon. The blackout game ended in a three way tie between Elsie Goodnight, Mary Votapka, and Irene Fringer.
  • The craft group began working on Valentine's Day decorations on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Fr. Mark Berland brought Communion for the Catholic residents on Thursday morning.
  • There were lots of winners at the dice game played on Thursday afternoon. Residents joining in on the fun included Dale Butler, Darlene Fisher, Irene Fringer, Elsie Goodnight, Donna Kent, Edna Mott, Joan Noble, Jim Pltts, Agnes Pruitt, Fern Wenger, Delores Wheeler, and Jean Skubal.
  • The baking group made sugar cookies on Friday afternoon. The cookies were a big hit with residents, staff, and guests.
  • Several residents met on Friday night for a game of music bingo. Charlotte reports that everyone who participated had a good time.

Topic: News from Cedar Living Center
Schedule Changes: We will be playing Penny Card on Monday at 2:00 PM instead of Dice Game. On Thursday at 2 PM we will be playing Half - A - Millionaire Game instead of Penny Cards. This will be lots of fun. Be sure to join us on Monday & Thursday at 2 PM and don't miss out on the fun! Hope to see you there. Also there will be Arts and Crafts on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 2:00 instead of Movie Time. We need to get the hearts finished for Valentine's Day for the rails. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Bible Study: Stuart Euhus will be here on Wednesday, Jan.13 at 4:00 out on the Patio. Everyone is invited to attend.

Communion: Pastor Charlotte from the Faith Lutheran Church will be here on Tuesday afternoon at 4:15 for the monthly Communion Service. Anyone who wants to attend to receive communion is welcome to attend.

Game Night: Game Night will be on Tuesday night this week at 6:30 PM. We always gave a good time when we get together on Game nights. It is a lot of fun! Hope to see you there on Tuesday night.

Fun and Games: On Saturday at 2 PM in the Dining Room we are going to have fun and games out in the dining room. We always have a good time.
